Mungo is a multidisciplinary artist, musician, dancer, and cultural architect whose work lives at the intersection of sound, movement, and visual storytelling. Shaped by a global education, Mungo’s practice explores identity, migration, faith, and belonging through painting, public art, performance, and music to unravel the complex interplay between faith, identity, and cultural norms, encouraging viewers to critically examine how religion, race and class shape their lives.

Growing up on the sounds of Oliver Mtukudzi, Nina Simone, Bob Marley, and Hugh Masekela, Mungo draws inspiration from a range of influences that blend into his unique sound. Fans often say Mungo’s music has a “Heart-Chakra-opening” expansive vibe that resonates deeply with audiences. His musical style embraces elements of R&B, afrobeat, and soulful vulnerability, transforming his own life experiences into universal feelings we all share. Known for creating spaces that feel intimate yet expansive, he has performed across the Pacific Northwest and beyond, appearing at venues and festivals, including performances at Treefort Music Fest's Main Stage in Boise and other regional showcases. His artistry extends beyond the stage into curated experiences such as Jazz and Verse, a live series he started, blending poetry and jazz musicians to explore thematic storytelling.

Movement has long been central to Mungo’s creative language. A dance instructor and theater performer, he has taught youth and adults throughout the Boise area and co-directed and co-choreographed productions at the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts. His movement vocabulary informs his stage presence and fashion design, embodying fluidity, strength, and dramatic storytelling. To Mungo, dance is both a discipline and a spiritual practice.

Visually, Mungo is a painter and public artist whose work bridges portraiture, abstraction, and cultural narrative. Using acrylic, oil and fabric Mungo seeks to unravel the complex interplay between faith, identity, and cultural norms, encouraging viewers to critically examine how religion, race and class shape their lives. He is currently pursuing an MFA in Painting at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, GA (expected Fall 2027), after earning a BA in Art & Design with a painting emphasis from The College of Idaho in 2021. His formal training began with an IB Diploma in Visual Art (HL) from UWC Dilijan College in Armenia.

His public art practice has made a lasting mark in Idaho. In 2025, he completed The Writing of Idaho’s Black History, a large-scale mural commissioned by Boise Arts and History honoring Black changemakers across the state. In 2023, he created Crossroads of Boise, a bronze public artwork highlighting immigrant communities. His work has also been featured in exhibitions at Art Source Gallery, Avianne International Gallery of Art, Rosenthal Gallery, and more.

Mungo’s pieces are held in permanent and private collections, including Boise State University’s permanent collection (Giveon and Hail Mary), the President’s House in Yerevan, Armenia (Amai Ndi Mwana), and the President’s Office at the College of Idaho (Agogo).

Beyond the studio and stage, Mungo is the founder of Mungowona Arts LLC, an interdisciplinary creative platform focused on mentorship, production, and artist development. Through the “Get Your Act Together” Mentorship Program, he has worked with artists across the United States, emphasizing sustainability, excellence, and community impact. His work has been supported by the Alexa Rose LIGHT OF DAY Grant (2024), the Garden City Placemaking Fund (2024), and multiple other grants recognizing both his artistic and civic contributions.

Fashion and design are additional extensions of his practice. From producing a 50-piece fashion show at UWC Dilijan titled This is Africa to presenting the Monoglo Collection at Boise’s Urban Cultural Fashion Show, Mungo approaches clothing as an extension of the self.

Electric, Eclectic, and Eccentric. Mungo pulls from the multiple cultures of places he has called home to weave a tapestry of sounds and visual references. He is a true artistic chameleon whose creativity knows no bounds. With a passion for dance, a talent for art and design, and a knack for making music, Mungo is a versatile artist who defies categorization. He is a true polymath, and he proudly describes himself as protean, constantly shape-shifting his creative expression to explore new horizons with empowerment at the root. At the core of his practice is a belief in art as a vessel for dialogue, bridging the personal and the universal and changing and challenging the harmful perceptions that hold us back from building more bridges.
