Mungo Launches fashion brand.
20.02.17

On Sunday 19th of February, in the evening the teachers and students were treated to a runway presentation of the vibrant colours and prints of African attires designed by our DP2 student Mungo. The sports hall was filled with students and teachers all gathered in anticipation of the ‘Colours of Africa’ fashion and dance show. Excitement grew as the audience settled into their seats and the models were busy with last minute touch-ups in the dressing rooms. What caught the attention of most on arrival, was that the runway was magnificently placed, allowing the audience to see the outfits from every angle. This set the mood for the spectacular presentation to follow.

The show began with a vibrant dance from members of the Dance CAS. They also performed a few more dances throughout the show that were choreographed by DP2 student, Thandiswa. Quickly after that, the models came out wearing Mungo’s colourful t-shirts with African prints. The crowd cheered on, evidently impressed by the creative designs and combinations of the attires. That was only the beginning of what Mungo had in store for them. What had begun as a show of casual but creative designs, turned into a show of sophisticated and formal evening gowns and suits. What stood out in all his designs was the impeccable combination of African prints and his own personal touch. His last design was a beautiful red gown that wowed the crowd with its elegant and striking lines.

Mungo says that his passion for fashion began during his visual arts classes where he was inspired to start sketching designs. He started designing and working with the Sewing CAS. Soon after that he finally decided to have a fashion show and share his talent. The fashion show was also a platform for him to officially launch his clothing brand ‘Mungo Ona Ligoya’. He will soon be launching his designs on ‘Collectual’ which is an online retail website that he will be using as an outlet to sell his clothes.
